Venue:

Abington Avenue United Reform Church

Abington Avenue, Northampton, NN1 4QA

ICAHD is an organisation whose mission the aims of Northampton Al-Bireh (Palestine) Friendship Associationstrongly support.  Based in Israel, it is an NGO which works with Israelis and Palestinians as well as Internationals, using non-violent resistance to oppose the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.  As its name suggests, ICAHD uses opposition to the Israeli state’s policy of demolishing Palestinian homes as its vehicle for resistance.

All proceeds of this meeting will be donated to ICAHD.

Please use every effort to publicise this event through your personal networks – social, home, workplace.  We would like it to be a sellout.

Jeff’s spring 2013 speaking tour takes him to France, Switzerland, Belgium.  In the UK, Northampton is the only speaking event outside of London.

This is a tremendous opportunity to launch NABPFA’s aim to support organisations working for a resolution of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.  ICAHD is very prominent as an organisation of non-violent resistance in Israel and its work is opposed by the authorities: it rebuilds homes and the Israeli army demolishes them again.

I attach two posters.  Please print out, display and disseminate as widely as possible.  The black-and-white poster can also be photocopied.  A5 size flyers will be available shortly.

Please make every effort to publicise this.  You can book places for yourself and others by contacting this email, phone 07847 725762, or send a cheque to me at
4 Cambria Crescent, Northampton, NN3 2AX.

Posh Tories, New Labour or Double Speak Libs – is that the only choice for those who oppose cuts?
Meeting……..   This Saturday 23rd February, 2pm – 4pm,
Jimmy’s End Community Centre, St James Sq.
‘SOS – Save Our Public Services/Save the NHS’ – A Meeting to discuss the standing of candidates in the local elections coming up.   We would urge all anti-cuts activists who have supported us in the past, or want to this time, to attend this meeting.  We need to decide how many candidates we might stand and clarify the sort of platform and policies we would fight on.

A debate on “Wellingborough: The Future. What sort of community do we want it to be?” will be held on Tuesday November 27th at 7.15 in the Victoria Centre, Palk Road, Wellingborough, NN8 1HR.

The organisers of the event said in a statement:
“This event is open to the public and  provides a rare opportunity for the people of Wellingborough to hear political speakers from different perspectives in a debate on the future of our town. There will also be full opportunities for the public to participate .

So often you will hear people say that they don’t know what is happening to the town, or that such-and-such should be done to improve it, or people moan about the fact that their views are not listened to. This meeting provides an opportunity for people to have a say and to question political leaders.”

The event is jointly organised by Independent Socialists in Wellingborough (ISW) and Wellingborough Labour Party, but will be Chaired by an independent person. Speakers to open the debate will be from the Labour Party, Conservative Party, Green Party and Independent Socialists in Wellingborough (ISW).

Northants DPAC in Northampton last Saturday getting residents to sign petition to show support against cuts, apart from the petition we had leaflets outlining the following:

The Independent Living Fund (ILF)

The Independent Living Fund (ILF) was set up in 1988 to provide funds for disabled people to manage their own care and support. Funds came from a central Government pot to aid those with the highest support needs to remain independent. ILF was closed to new applicants by the Coalition Government in 2010 preventing many disabled people from accessing this support to remain independent.

The Coalition said They Would Always Support Those with the Greatest Needs
The Closure of ILF Shows they Lied Again.

There are 20,000 existing users of ILF in the UK. The Coalition Government wants to jeopardise their support too by forcing them to rely on local authorities from 2015 by closing the ILF permanently. Local authorities already face severe cuts and cannot provide adequate support. Some local authorities are already saying that residential care homes will be their only option: we expect others to follow….

The Coalition Believe they can Ignore the Years of National Insurance Contributions, Taxes and Unpaid Work You Contributed

Thousands will be forced into Residential ‘Care’ Homes.

We have already seen Well Publicized Forms of Physical, Mental and Sexual Abuse that can occur in these places

It could Happen to You, Your Parents, Your Grandparents, Your Relatives or Your Friends in the Future.
